What actually gets translated
This is the part worth being precise about, because it is easy to over-promise.
Translated: the scaffolding of the answer sheet — the printed instructions, the field labels, and the wording around how to fill in a bubble.
Not translated: your questions. If you wrote the test in English, the questions are still in English. PaperScorer is not machine-translating your assessment content, and it should not — a mistranslated stem changes what a question is measuring.
Why the split matters
The sheet scaffolding is boilerplate that means the same thing every time, so translating it is safe. Assessment content is not boilerplate. Keeping the two separate means a Vietnamese-speaking student gets instructions they can read without anyone silently rewriting the question they are being graded on.
Who this is for
Newcomer and ELL programs. A student who is still acquiring English should not lose points because they misread how to fill in the form. Removing that barrier isolates what you are actually trying to measure.
Dual-language and immersion classrooms. Print the same assessment with sheets in whichever language matches the section.
Schools outside the United States. PaperScorer is used in 12 countries. Until now, every one of them printed English scaffolding regardless of the language of instruction.
Districts with multilingual family communication requirements. Some districts are obligated to provide assessment materials in the languages their families speak. This covers the sheet itself.
How to use it
Printing in another language
The scanning engine does not care which language the sheet was printed in. A Korean sheet and an English sheet from the same assessment score against the same answer key and land in the same report.
Mixing languages in one class
You can print different languages for different students from the same assessment. Print the English set for most of the class and a Spanish set for the four students who need it — same assessment, same key, one set of results.
