Everything you need to know about PaperScorer — from getting started to integrations, security, and support.

Getting Started

What is PaperScorer?

PaperScorer is a paper-based assessment platform that lets you create, print, scan, and auto-grade tests on standard paper. It combines the familiarity of paper testing with modern digital analytics — no proprietary scantron forms or specialty hardware required.

Who uses PaperScorer?

Teachers, schools, and districts use PaperScorer for classroom assessments, as do tutoring centers, homeschool educators, and corporate trainers. Anyone administering paper-based tests or quizzes can benefit from faster grading and richer analytics.

Do I need special paper or equipment?

No. PaperScorer answer sheets print on standard 8.5"×11" paper with any inkjet or laser printer. You scan them with our free iOS/Android app or any document scanner — no scantron machine needed.

How long does setup take?

Most individual teachers are up and running within a few minutes of creating a free account. LMS integrations like Canvas LTI typically take 15-30 minutes and may require a school admin for installation.

Creating Tests

What question types does PaperScorer support?

PaperScorer supports multiple choice, true/false, yes/no, numeric response, matching/association, and ordering — all auto-graded. Written responses are also supported and graded manually within our online grading interface.

Can I print answer sheets on any printer?

Yes. Our answer sheets print on standard 8.5"×11" plain paper using any inkjet or laser printer. No special toner, paper weight, or calibration required.

Can students reuse answer sheets?

Each answer sheet is uniquely generated per student per assessment, so physical sheets aren't meant to be reused. However, you can reuse the underlying assessment template across as many classes and students as you need.

How many questions fit on a single sheet?

PaperScorer automatically paginates based on your question count and layout. A typical single-sided sheet holds around 50 multiple-choice questions; longer assessments flow to additional pages automatically.

Scanning & Grading

What scanning options do you support?

Three options: (1) the free PaperScorer mobile app for iOS and Android, (2) any document scanner that produces PDFs, and (3) email-to-scan — send scanned PDFs directly to your PaperScorer account for automatic processing.

How accurate is the grading?

Our bubble recognition is extremely accurate thanks to our proprietary scanning technology. Ambiguous marks are flagged for manual review, so you always have the final say on edge cases.

Can PaperScorer grade written responses?

Written responses are graded manually, but PaperScorer streamlines the process by displaying student responses side-by-side in a clean online interface. Scores automatically combine with auto-graded sections into a single final result.

How fast is scanning?

A single sheet takes just a few seconds with the mobile app. Bulk upload via a document scanner can process hundreds of sheets in minutes, and results are typically available within seconds of upload.

LMS Integrations

Which LMSes do you integrate with?

PaperScorer integrates with Canvas, Google Classroom, Blackboard, Brightspace, and Learnosity. We also offer a Core API and Learnosity API for custom integrations.

Do grades sync back automatically?

Yes. Once connected, PaperScorer syncs grades directly to your LMS gradebook and posts scores to student dashboards — no manual entry required.

Do I need an admin to install the Canvas LTI?

For institution-wide Canvas deployments, yes — your admin will install the LTI at the account level. Individual teachers using Canvas Free for Teachers can install it themselves at the course level.
